There are a few goals for this training:
- Provide free online professional development training modules that can be used by any postsecondary instructor in the U.S. regardless of their experience with disability, field of study, or type of higher education institution, with additional features that can be customized by campuses.
- Provide free on-demand resources about disability that postsecondary faculty and instructors can access at any time, curated for quality and usefulness. These materials complement instructor materials available at the NCCSD Clearinghouse.
- Give practical information about inclusive teaching and learning strategies that can help different kinds of learners - not only those with disabilities.
- Include disability information for in and out of the classroom, including planning accessible events.
- Improve retention and graduation rates of students with disabilities by improving their experiences in higher education.
This training was developed through a collaboration between the NCCSD at the University of Minnesota's Institute on Community Integration, DO-IT at the University of Washington, and the Association on Higher Education And Disability (AHEAD). Content creators and designers were Wendy S. Harbour, Sheryl Burgstahler, Richard Allegra, David Johnson, Brian Abery, and Renáta Tichá. If you have any questions, need assistance accessing this site, or would like to adapt the training for your campus, contact the NCCSD at [email protected].
